History

LiftBoxx, formerly known as “Alco”, was founded in 1916 by Alphons Cox (Al-Co). Alphons initially manufactured wheels and later moved on to farm carts. From the very beginning, the company has been a pioneer in technological development. By the mid-1930s, Alco began producing complete vehicles and various types of trailers on a larger scale.

1960 | Gerard Cox takes the lead

Alphons’ only son, Gerard Cox, took over the company in 1960 and responded to the increasing demand for more advanced transport and distribution solutions. Gerard specialized the company in commercial trailers, particularly boat trailers.
Gerard’s son, René, took over in 1974. As a technically gifted inventor, René continued to build on the company’s innovative nature. He developed not only special low-floor chassis and custom vehicles, but also left a strong mark on the existing portfolio through constant innovation. In 1990, a special air suspension system was developed for light commercial vehicles, and that same year, an electric car was introduced. In 1994, Alco even won Electric Car of the Year with the MicroCar.

1984 | The first LiftBoxx

René Cox developed the first version of the LiftBoxx when a customer requested loading and unloading at street level. In the initial version, only the floor dropped — not the entire box — but the core of the system remains unchanged to this day.
Netras, a young company producing vehicles with demountable and lowering container units, was acquired in full. LiftBoxx now also services Netras vehicles, expanding both its expertise and service offerings. Thanks to continuous development, the LiftBoxx design has been improved and refined. The Boxx units are now easier than ever to deploy and exchange.

After strong demand from the market for Boxx units that could not only lower but also rise to dock height, the LiftBoxx Docks was introduced. With LiftBoxx Docks, the entire loading box can now be lifted up to 1.6 meters, making loading and unloading at docks or elevated platforms possible.
